Team history

TERRA is the first competition team at UFSC – Joinville campus to dedicate itself to the research, analysis and construction of an autonomous submarine vehicle (AUV). Made official by the institution in May 2019, the team includes members from the most varied courses at UFSC - Joinville. In addition to the members, the team has three teachers involved in the project, such as the team coordinator Prof. Dr. Andrea Piga Carboni and collaborating professors Prof. Dr. Lucas Weihmann and Prof. Dr. Roberto Simoni

Throughout 2019 and 2020 the team prepared for its first competition: Cobruf SUBSPACE Beta. This competition is held for the first time by COBRUF - Aerospace Competitions and focuses on carrying out a theoretical project on the design of an AUV that is capable of carrying out explorations in the oceanic world of the moon Europa of the planet Jupiter, similar to the mission that NASA has been developing and that it intends to run in 2025. Despite being the team's first competition, the results were very positive, in addition to winning in the SUBSPACE category, the team was recognized as the overall winner of the competition.

In 2021, participated in its first competition abroad, Robosub, held by RoboNation and which takes place every year in San Diego, California, but due to physical distance measures it will take place online. In this competition, teams build an autonomous underwater vehicle that is capable of performing various operations such as crossing a portal, recognizing and collecting objects underwater, among others. In 2022, the team will participate again in Robosub, with the great objective of improving the subsystems already developed in the last year by carrying out experimental tests and presenting new systems.
